Adrian Anchondo Boards General Hospital as Marco

Adrian Anchondo is joining General Hospital. The actor has boarded the soap in the contract role of a lawyer named Marco, according to TV Insider. Although he’s new to daytime, Anchondo has appeared on many primetime hits like Law & Order: Organized Crime, The Rookie, and NCIS: Los Angeles.

He headed to the studio to meet GH producers a month after his audition. Anchondo recalled:

It was very intimidating seeing all the beautiful Latino men there I was going up against, all younger. But I really connected with the character, and I feel like I’ve been playing a lot of good guys going bad or bad guys going good, so I think this character is in my wheelhouse.

He did a screen-test with Van Hansis, who plays Lucas, whom he met through the theater world decades ago. Anchondo also has a family connection to watching GH, as his late mother was big fan of soaps. He shared:

My mom passed away when I was 28, and one of my best and earliest memories of her is when I was 4 or 5 and she would be getting ready on the couch for work, and she’d do her makeup in this compact so she could watch soaps. She loved Young and the Restless and General Hospital and I can still remember watching the show and just how much she enjoyed it.

What can fans expect from Marco? Anchondo said:

The character has been very sweet and charming, and, of course, it wouldn’t be a soap opera without dark secrets somewhere. He’s also very intelligent and very articulate, which is kind of opposite of who I am as a person. I don’t find myself to be the most articulate person [laughs]. I don’t think I’ve ever played a lawyer. I’ve definitely been on the other end from Viola Davis grilling me on How to Get Away with Murder, so that’ll take getting used to. Van was like, ‘I gotta play a doctor on here, and there’s so many things about the human body that I’m just learning,’ so I’m like, ‘If he can do it, I think I can handle the legal stuff.’

Anchondo’s first airdate is today, March 13.
