The first ATP 500 of 2025 is being played this week in Rotterdam, with a very strong field headed by Carlos Alcaraz and featuring lots of top players and indoor specialists. This is always one of the most competitive and highest quality 500 events of the calendar and this year should be no exception to that, with this day featuring plenty of tasty matchups.
ATP Rotterdam Day 2 Predictions
David Goffin vs Alex de Minaur
Head-to-head: De Minaur 5-0 Goffin
Everything points towards a De Minaur win here: he is in arguably the best moment of his career while Goffin has lost all of his last six matches, he leads the head-to-head 5-0 and 10-1 in sets and he was a finalist at this tournament last year. While Goffin, even in his declined state, can ocasionally be dangerous to higher ranked players, it would be a considerable shock if he won here.
Predictions: De Minaur in 2
Andrey Rublev vs Zhizhen Zhang
Head-to-head: Rublev 3-0 Zhang
Both players are having very rough starts to 2025, but you would imagine Rublev will sooner or later get back to his perennial Top 10 level and have a few strong runs. He’s a former champion at this event in 2021 and is facing someone who has been struggling even more than himself as of late, so he should safely make it through to the second round.
Prediction: Rublev in 2

Lorenzo Sonego vs Holger Rune
Head-to-head: Rune 2-0 Sonego
Sonego had his best ever Slam run at the Australian Open and should be highly motivated for a big 2025 season. Meanwhile, Rune was arguably Jannik Sinner’s toughest opponent en route to the title, even if the manner of his defeat will certainly have left him very frustrated. He showed the ability to be a real contender, but the question is how often he will be able to reproduce it. This tournament is an excellent opportunity to prove he has gone up a level.
Prediction: Rune in 3
