BJP MLAs stage walk out over minister’s remark | Ranchi News


Ranchi: BJP MLAs walked out of Thursday’s proceedings of the assembly after finance minister Radha Krishana Kishore asked them to secure for the state the Centre’s unpaid contribution of Rs 141 crore for social security pensions to widows and persons with disabilities. Kishore’s remarks came during a discussion on enhancing the state’s monthly stipends and pensions, being paid monthly to the handicapped, widows and the elderly.
BJP’s Baghmara MLA Satrughan Mahto had asked a question on the issue and demanded an increase in pension of handicapped persons.
Dhanwar MLA Babulal Marandi, who was elected the leader of opposition later in the day, demanded that the handicapped, the elderly and the widows must also get pensions at par with Maiyan Samman Yojna (MSY) in which govt is providing Rs 2,500 per month to the beneficiaries. “A physically challenged girl from Bokaro texted me, claiming that she has not received pension for four months,” he claimed.
Koderma MLA Neera Yadav stated that handicapped, senior citizens and widows are needier than the beneficiaries of MSY adding that latter are in a situation to earn. Minister Chamra Linda stated that pension to handicapped persons is given through centre and state contribution adding that the former has allocated its share till June 2024 but state govt has provided pension to handicapped persons till December, 2024 from its revolving fund.
Kishore intervened and stated that government was also concerned over the issue. “We will assess the system in MP, UP and Chhatisgarh and move forward,” he added.
He asked the BJP MLAs to secure the unpaid contribution of Rs 141 crore from centre for pension to widows and handicapped persons. The BJP MLAs came to well of the house shouting slogans in favour of their demands and walked out after a few minutes.
