BEREA, Ohio — ‘Tis the season of free agency in the NFL, a time when players leave teams, extend their time on teams and join new clubs. For the Browns, the window might not be full of flashy moves, but they will inevitably be active in some capacity. And with 26 free agents on the roster, many players who have come to call Cleveland home may be finding themselves in new locations this week.

At noon Monday, the Browns were officially able to begin contacting players who are set to become unrestricted free agents when their contracts expire on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Any deals made over the next two days will not be made official until 4 p.m. Wednesday.

But handshake and verbal deals are what this time frame is all about, so as moves are made they’ll be updated in the tracker below. There are several big names set to become free agents, including running back Nick Chubb and offensive lineman Jedrick Wills Jr. There are also positions of need, especially quarterback.

BROWNS FREE AGENCY MOVES:

March 11, 12:39 a.m. —

Browns signing veteran swing tackle

After losing a depth piece in offensive tackle James Hudson III to free agency, and with another left tackle set to become a free agent as well in Jedrick Wills Jr., the Browns made a late-night move to address the need. Cleveland is signing former Commanders offensive tackle Cornelius Lucas to a two-year deal, his agent Dan Saffron confirmed to News 5.

Lucas’ deal is worth up to $10 million and will add a much-needed swing tackle to the Browns’ offensive line.

For the past five seasons, Lucas, 33, has been with the Commanders, playing a mix of left and right tackle. Last year, he played in 14 games and started in seven. He gave up just one sack last year and allowed just 11 hurries.

Originally signed by the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent out of Kansas State in 2014, Lucas has also spent time with the Rams, Saints and Bears.

The 6-foot-8, 327-pound lineman should give the Browns more security in protecting the starting quarterback, who is still to be determined.

Giants acquire Browns T James Hudson III

The New York Giants agreed to a 2-year deal with Browns tackle James Hudson III. Hudson was a fourth-round pick by the Browns in 2021 who went on to play in 49 total games for Cleveland, starting in 17 of them. Hudson was a major depth piece for the Browns and was often called up to start amid injuries to the offensive line.

March 10, 6:29 p.m. —

Browns releasing DT Dalvin Tomlinson

The Cleveland Browns will release defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson at the start of the new league year, a league source told News 5. He will be designated as a post-June 1 cut. The move will save the Browns around $6.4 million in cap space this year.

Tomlinson signed a four-year, $57 million contract with the Browns in 2023, joining the team after two seasons with the Vikings. In two seasons with the Browns, Tomlinson played and started in 32 games, recording six sacks, 54 tackles 10 for loss, and 30 QB hits.

While he will be a post-June 1 designation, Tomlinson will be able to join a new team at the start of the new league year on Wednesday. The move is the last of two post-June 1 cuts the Browns are able to make. The team had previously informed safety Juan Thornhill that he would be released as a post-June 1 designation. More here.

Browns trading QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson for Kenny Pickett

The Cleveland Browns are acquiring quarterback Kenny Pickett from the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson and a 2025 fifth-round pick. More here.

Browns extend DE Myles Garrett
It looked like the Browns were on track to lose their best player when star defensive end Myles Garrett requested a trade in February. The Browns were steadfast on keeping Garrett, refusing to entertain any trade offers and despite the back and forth over the past several weeks, have ultimately come to an agreement to keep Garrett in orange and brown for years to come. The team signed Garrett to a 4-year contract extension to make the pass rusher the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. More here.
