GAME NOTES–SAMFORD AT VANDERBILT (PDF)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
The Samford women’s basketball team will travel to Nashville, Tennessee, to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Memorial Gymnasium.
Samford enters the game with a record of 2-4 after an 87-71 win over Montevallo on Tuesday. Vanderbilt has a record of 5-0 following a 94-45 win over Hampton Wednesday evening.
Samford and Vanderbilt are meeting for the fifth time, with Vanderbilt holding a 4-0 series lead. The teams last played in 2022, an 81-51 Vanderbilt win. The first meeting came in 2003, with Vanderbilt winning, 67-50.
Samford junior center Emily Bowman is tied for the Southern Conference lead in scoring (13.2 ppg.) and she leads the league in rebounding (10.2 rpg.), posting four double-doubles through the first six games of the season. Freshman Claire Johnson is currently second on the team in scoring, averaging 11.4 points per game. She has scored in double figures in four of her first six college games.
Annie Ramil is averaging 8.7 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. She posted a double-double at Memphis with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Samford sophomore Kennedy Langham is currently averaging 9.0 points per game for the Bulldogs.
Vanderbilt has been led so far this season by Mikayla Blakes, averaging 21.2 points and 3.4 assists per game. Khamil Pierre is averaging 18.8 points and 10.8 rebounds per game of the Commodores. Iyana Moore is averaging 11.3 points per game, while Madison Greene is scoring 10.5 points per contest.
