The Vancouver Canucks opened a five-game road trip with a 5-4 overtime loss against the Montreal Canadiens on Monday night as the Over (5.5) cashed. The Canucks have lit the lamp four or more times in five of the past seven games, while the Over is also 5-2 in the span. Vancouver goaltending has allowed three or more goals in nine straight games dating back to Dec. 18, too. The Canucks have struggled on defense and goaltending, allowing 3.2 GPG to rank 26th in the NHL, while the penalty kill is so-so with an 80.2 percent mark to rank 16th. The power play also ranks 15th with a 22.7 percent mark, while averaging 3.1 GPG.
For the Capitals, it’s been all Over all the time lately. The Caps have scored 16 goals across the past four games, or 4.0 GPG, while allowing four goals in each of the past three games, and four of the previous five outings. The Over has connected in five of the past six games for Washington, too. The Capitals have been a juggernaut on offense, going for 3.7 GPG to rank second in the NHL. The power play has managed a 23.9 percent success rate, ranking ninth. Defensively, Washington ranks seventh with 2.6 GPG, while the kill also ranks seventh at 83.7 percent. Don’t let that dissuade you, however. The Caps have been going high on the reg lately, and the offense is red hot. Let’s take the over in Wednesday’s matchup.
