The saga of As I Lay Dying‘s Tim Lambesis took a disturbing turn this morning. A mass exodus of bandmates from his aforementioned metalcore group transpired over the past month or two, with the various outgoing members citing their concerns with their morals and more. It would seem we may now know why.
Bassist/vocalist Ryan Neff was the first to leave on October 18th, with guitarist Ken Susi and drummer Nick Pierce following suit on October 24th. Guitarist/vocalist Phil Sgrosso was out on October 30th.
Sgrosso stated in his exit statement, “…Recent actions have shown that As I Lay Dying no longer offers a healthy or safe environment for anyone involved—whether creatively, personally, or professionally. After witnessing some concerning patterns of behavior, I’ve realized that I can no longer, in good conscience, enable further actions that could negatively affect anyone working within this space.”
Each of their individual statements alluded to an unhealthy relationship within the band. Susi stated of his departure, “Unfortunately, my personal morals have recently been tested to a breaking point, and it’s now the saddest ending to what could have been the greatest second chance for this band.”
Pierce‘s exit statement echoed Susi‘s sentiments, in part offering: “This is far from being the ending I anticipated, and I feel I need to distance myself from the band in an effort to retain my personal health and integrity.”
Brandon Short, Lambesis‘ bandmate in Austrian Death Machine, went on to exit that band earlier this month, stating, “my integrity and character have been called into question in a way I can no longer accept.”
This morning disturbing footage began anonymously emerging on Reddit of Lambesis. Several clips emerged on Vimeo of Lambesis, including heated exchanges between him and his wife.
The footage in question appears to have come from home security cameras and such placed around Lambesis‘ residence and finds him erupting into agitated stages, becoming physically aggressive and eventually hitting himself numerous times. Lambgoat have compiled some of that footage.
Tim‘s wife Dany was quick to shoot down any allegations of domestic violence between her and her husband back on October 24th, issuing this statement.
On November 04th, in the wake of all the turnover in the roster of As I Lay Dying, Tim issued his own statement, vowing to rebuild the lineup of the band and resume touring in 2025.
Lambesis has remained a divisive figure since he infamously serving several years in prison, after being caught in a murder-for-hire plot that found him attempting to hire a hitman to have his wife at the time killed back in 2013.
While sentenced to six years in jail for solicitation of another to commit murder, he was paroled after roughly two years in prison, and would later resurrect As I Lay Dying.
Update: November 27th, 2024 11:43pm:
Tim Lambesis has since issued this statement in regards to the newly unearthed footage and the status of his marital relationship.
