Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla isn’t all the way through the new HBO documentary “Celtics City” yet.

He is busy attempting to lead the Celtics to back-to-back titles, after all, and the playoffs start next month.

But so far, the Boston bench boss is pleased with what he’s seen. He told 98.5 the Sports Hub’s Zolak and Bertrand that the Celtics watched episode four together as an organization.

“I think it brought an amazing perspective,” Mazzulla said. “Sometimes you wake up every day and it’s like you coach the Celtics and then you watch something like that and you’re like man, this job wouldn’t be what it was if these things if these things in the past didn’t happen and people didn’t achieve what they achieved and go through what they went through, the good and the bad.

“It just gave an amazing perspective into how the responsibility and the ownership we have in this job.”

Episode four, which chronicles Larry Bird’s arrival in Boston and first championship in 1981, is not yet available to the public. The series was set to premiere Monday night with episode one, and the other eight episodes are scheduled to be released once per week afterwards.

The series begins with the early days of Red Auerbach in the 1950s and concludes with the 2024 championship.

Bertrand said Celtics fans will love the documentary and that it would only make those who hate the Celtics hate them even more. That statement got Mazzulla fired up.

“Is there anything better?” Mazzulla said. “What you just said got me excited for the rest of day. The beautiful relationship of love and hate, especially in sports, we’re right in the nucleus of that, so there’s nothing better.”

The nine-part documentary features interviews from Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Bird, Robert Parrish, Rick Pitino, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Kevin McHale, and many more past and present Celtics. The final episode is set to run on April 28th.

Mazzulla said the balance of love and hate for the Celtics is part of what makes them compelling.

“That’s the world that we live in,” Mazzulla said. “I think that is a good driving force. You have to have that balance. You have to understand if you go into an arena, at home you’re being cheered to the fullest and on the road you’re not. There’s nothing better than that.”
