Explosion at substation on Texas Tech campus cause of power outage


LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Texas Tech says an explosion at a substation has caused power outages on campus and at the Health Sciences Center.

The Engineering Key is evacuated as well as HSC. Around 9:20 p.m., the Texas Tech Library officially closed.

The public is asked to avoid the area.

Lubbock Fire Rescue says it’s responding to “multiple fires” on campus and buildings have been evacuated in the area.

Texas Tech Health Sciences Center is now being evacuated due to the events on campus and as a precaution.

There is also reports of a power outage that is affecting multiple areas on campus.

KCBD has a crew headed to the campus right now.
