TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Tomorrow brings a combination of fire danger concerns, windy conditions and possible precipitation will be something to monitor. Temperatures will continue to remain at or above average for this time of year even on the cooler days within the next 8 days.
Taking Action:
- Fire danger will be extreme Friday. Winds will increase to gusts 35-55 mph Friday and Saturday.
- The lunar eclipse that peaks around 2am Friday is looking good for viewing with mostly clear skies and temperatures likely in the 60s.
- There remains a low chance for isolated t-storms tomorrow afternoon. As of now the severe weather threat still remains very low and it’s even possible to have a storm with lightning and minimal rain which could be a concern for starting a fire.
- If you’re going to Irish fest in downtown Topeka Saturday, it’ll be breezy with gusts around 30 mph and some peeks of sun with partly to mostly cloudy skies. Temperature will be 47° for the 5k at 10am and 50° at noon for the start of the parade.
We’re monitoring two cold fronts in the next 8 days: One Friday night and the other one on Wednesday. All models are now in agreement of the timing of next week’s cold front meaning Tuesday will still be mild before a more seasonal day is expected on Wednesday. After today, the milder days (tomorrow, Monday and Tuesday) will lead to elevated fire danger concerns.
Tonight: Mostly Clear. Lows in the mid-upper 50s. Winds S 10-15, gusts up to 30 mph late.
Tomorrow: Increasing Clouds. Slight chance of showers/storms in the afternoon. Highs in the low-mid 70s in the early afternoon before cooling down in the 60s by 5pm. Winds S 20-30, gusts up to 55 mph.
Saturday: Mostly Cloudy. Highs in the mid 50s. Winds NW 10-20, gusts up to 35 mph.
Sunday: Mostly Sunny. Highs in the upper 50s-low 60s. Winds NW 5-15 gusts up to 25 mph.
Warming in the 70s Monday and Tuesday with stronger winds before cooling down in the 50s Wednesday and Thursday. 2 of the 3 long range models are indicating a possibility of snow mixing in with the rain on Wednesday. Way too far out to be worried about it and even if there is accumulation it may just be confined to grassy surfaces considering how warm it’s been recently and getting the roads warm enough.
