Finebaum waves white flag on ESPN after leading Alabama parade: ‘Count me out’

Paul Finebaum is done stumping for Alabama.

A day after the Crimson Tide lost to Michigan 19-13 in the ReliaQuest Bowl in Tampa, the SEC Network analyst “surrendered” on Wednesday’s “Get Up.”

“I led the Alabama parade to get them into the playoffs,” Finebaum said. “You know that I stood on every building, especially on this show, and, on the first day of the new year, I’m surrendering. I am waving the white flag.

“Forget Alabama. Count me out.”

Last month, when the CFP selected SMU or the 12-team playoff over Alabama, Finebaum said the committee took the easy way out.

“They did not want to be responsible for killing conference championship games just yet,” Finebaum said at the time.

“I’m gravitating back toward Alabama because I know they are capable of beating good teams,” he added. “I’d rather put in a flawed team that can beat a good team like Georgia, than just put someone in because they have a win over the No. 23 team in the country.”

Penn State toyed with mistake-prone SMU in a 38-10 victory in the opening round of the College Football Playoff last week.

However, the Tide hardly looked the part Tuesday of a CFP contender, falling flat against the Wolverines.
