The NFL’s free agency period opens Monday with a 52-hour legal tampering period ahead of the official start of the new league year on Wednesday.

In addition to efforts to retain the services of some of their own, the race has begun for the Dallas Cowboys to potentially add some new faces to the roster next season.

Here’s an explanation of rules and terms:

What does legal tampering mean?

At 11 a.m. Monday, teams can start negotiating with players who will become unrestricted free agents when their contracts expire at the start of the new league year on 3 p.m. Wednesday. Players can’t sign with new teams until the league year officially begins. The two-day negotiating period applies only to players who will be unrestricted free agents.

OL Chuma Edoga

(3:00 p.m.) Chuma Edoga will suit up alongside Jourdan Lewis for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2025. The veteran offensive lineman agreed to a two-year deal with Jacksonville on Monday, according to multiple reports. Edoga has played for the Cowboys since 2023, getting reps at tackle and guard at various points over the last two seasons.

DT Roy Robertson-Harris

(2:40 p.m.) The Giants agreed to terms with defensive tackle Roy Robertson-Harris on a two-year deal worth $10 million, according to ESPN.

DE Josh Sweat

(2:18 p.m.) Former Eagles defensive end Josh Sweat is leaving the division. The star pass rusher agreed to a four-year deal with Arizona worth $76.4 million, per multiple reports.

LS Trent Sieg

(1:26 p.m.) Cowboys veteran long snapper Trent Sieg will be returning to Dallas next season. The 29-year-old agreed to a new deal on Monday worth $4.5 million over the next three years.

CB Jourdan Lewis

(12:04 p.m.) For much of his NFL career, Jourdan Lewis has stood out as one of the Dallas Cowboys’ most consistent defenders. However, he’s earned a new deal elsewhere in free agency and is set to play for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2025. Lewis agreed to a three-year deal with the Jaguars on Monday, a person with knowledge of the departure told The Dallas Morning News. After Osa Odighizuwa, Lewis was one of the top veterans the Cowboys hoped to retain.

CB Paulson Adebo

(12:03 p.m.) The New York Giants agreed to terms with cornerback Paulson Adebo, according to ESPN.

DT Javon Kinlaw

(11:36 a.m.) Washington has reached a three-year, $45 million agreement with former 49ers and Jets defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw, according to ESPN.
