Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Byron Leftwich has not been in the NFL as a coach in two years after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers fired him as their offensive coordinator, but he hopes to find another landing spot soon.

Talking to the Athletic, Leftwich let it be known that he wants to be back in the NFL, and that while he does not have lush opportunites, he woudl relish joining a staff.

“I didn’t have the opportunities right after and this last year that I thought I would have, but I understand the process, and I understand that the whole world’s trying to get in that league,” Leftwich said. “Nothing should be given to me. Nobody owes me anything. So, I’m going to just work and see if I can have the opportunity to coach in that league again.”

Leftwich came up under Bruce Arianas as a coach, joining him in Arizona and then the Buccaneers when he hopped ship to Florida. After the 2021 season, Leftwich was a hot candiate to land a head coach job, but he crashed and burned in 2022.

The Buccaneers moved on and Leftwich has not even landed a position coach job. He was a quarterback in the NFL for nearly a decade, including for the Steelers. That veteran experience lent itself well to his transtion into the coaching realm.
