Grammys 2025: St. Vincent Wins Best Alternative Music Album and Performance

St. Vincent has won Best Alternative Music Performance at the 2025 Grammy Awards ceremony this evening. Her All Born Screaming single “Flea” won over tracks by Kim Gordon (“Bye Bye”), Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds (“Song of the Lake”), Fontaines D.C. (“Starburster”), and Cage the Elephant (“Neon Pill”).

In her acceptance speech, Annie Clark thanked her family, friends, and collaborators on “Flea,” including Dave Grohl and Justin Meldal-Johnsen. She also shouted out the awards show band for playing Beck’s “Devil’s Haircut” as she took the stage, saying, “That’s so nice! I do have a devil’s haircut in my mind!”

Shortly afterwards, St. Vincent took home Best Alternative Music Album for All Born Screaming as well. She used her acceptance speech to tell her wife and daughter how much she loves them, and to thank the other artists who worked on her album, like Cate Le Bon. “To every other nominee in this category, you fuckin’ rip and I love you all so much. It’s an honor to be in the same world where you all exist,” said Clark. “This record was obviously a labor of love. Making records is like building a house when you have no floor plans and you don’t know what wood or concrete is.”

If you were surprised to hear that Clark is happily married and a mother these days, that’s because she’s “kept it under wraps,” she told reporters afterwards. “The child is young, just to be clear. The child is young,” she laughed, elaborating that she and her wife haven’t been hiding a secret for years.

Earlier in the night, St. Vincent won Best Rock Song for “Broken Man.” That song was also nominated for Best Rock Performance but lost to the Beatles’ “Now and Then.” Clark issued All Born Screaming back in the spring of 2024. She followed it with a Spanish-language version of the album, titled Todos Nacen Gritando.
