Jacoby Brissett lost QB job, but landed TV commercial because of it

Jacoby Brissett lost his starting quarterback job with the New England Patriots. You know what that makes him? A backup.

That’s not a good thing when it comes to NFL playing time. But it does open up an opportunity for Brissett to explore some other possibilities — like TV commercials.

Brissett recently starred in a new commercial for Progressive Insurance as part of the company’s “Backups” campaign.

The series of commercials features a member of a household struggling with a task before being subbed out for a “backup.” In each instance, it’s a different NFL quarterback who is well-known for being a backup.

Previous commercials include Colt McCoy, Josh Dobbs and Case Keenum. Brissett’s appears to be a more recent creation. The first three quarterbacks were backups out of the gate this year. Brissett began the season as the starting quarterback before being benched for rookie Drake Maye after Week 5.

The new commercial recently aired during Amazon’s “Thursday Night Football” broadcast this week. There’s a good chance it will continue to pop up as football season continues — including when the Patriots face the Dolphins this Sunday.
