Jeff Brohm names Harrison Bailey as Sun Bowl QB

EL PASO, Texas — Harrison Bailey’s final college game will be his first start at quarterback for Louisville football.

The redshirt senior was named the Cardinals’ starter for the Sun Bowl against Washington, U of L head coach Jeff Brohm announced Monday. Bailey became QB1 after Tyler Shough opted out of the bowl game. Shough ended his collegiate career with 3,195 passing yards and 23 touchdowns for the Cardinals (8-4).

“Harrison is looking forward to getting his opportunity,” Brohm said. “And I think when you’re the backup quarterback, you never know when your turn is going to come. I think he’s worked hard. He’s really practiced well throughout this entire month.”

Shough, Bailey and Pierce Clarkson were the only quarterbacks to record a pass for Louisville this season. But the Cardinals were down to only Bailey by the end of the year after Clarkson, who had 11 yards on 3-for-4 passing this season, opted to transfer.

Backup QBs include true freshman Deuce Adams; Brady Allen, who withdrew from the transfer portal; and Sam Young, who converted to wide receiver but still is listed as a QB on the roster.
