Karen Huger Breaks the Fourth Wall While Preparing for Court Date in Somber Moment

It was time for Karen Huger to face a judge related to her March 19, 2024, car crash, and cameras were rolling in an all-new episode of The Real Housewives of Potomac.

In Season 9, Episode 8, the Grand Dame and her legal counsel, Troy — whom Karen referred to as “one hell of an attorney” — prepared to go before the judge to face eight charges related to a driving incident.  Karen has been cautious throughout the season about what she says while filming, but let viewers in on the emotional moment.

In the recent episode, just as Troy knocked on the front door before the scheduled court hearing, Karen asked RHOP producers, “He’s not mic’d, right?” Producers said he wasn’t, and the duo agreed to discuss the case on the car ride to Montgomery County Circuit Court.

“Let’s just get us in, and then we can turn the mics off,” Karen told the film crew as she got into the S.U.V.

As previously reported by Bravo’s The Daily Dish, on the day of the single-car collision, Karen reportedly left a dinner and planned to drive home when, at around 11:40 p.m., she swerved to avoid a deer. Her 2017 Maserati allegedly crossed a median and hit multiple street signs, though no one else was injured, according to People.

Karen, citing the ongoing case for why she can’t say much about the incident, said in the season premiere that she did hurt her ankle and ribs.

“I’m waiting for it to be done so I can’t talk about it,” Karen said in her confessional. “I just want to tell my truth, but I have to respect the process in order to come out on the positive end of this.”

Earlier in the morning’s quiet hours, while still at home, Karen told her supportive husband, Ray Huger, that she was “exhausted by the process” but happy to get the ordeal over with once and for all. She later told producers she was “prayerful” going into the court session and “grateful” for Troy and the legal system.

“I’m just grateful to be alive, grateful that I have attorneys, and praying for a good outcome,” she said.

What happened at Karen’s court hearing?

Cameras weren’t permitted to follow Karen inside the courthouse, but once returning home, she said the case had been postponed until September 23, 2024, four months out from the time of filming.

“I’ll say this: The legal system is very slow, and I’m just gonna have to be patient,” she told producers. “But I wish it were today. I wish it were all over.”
