Nothing says true professional like continuing to perform onstage during a major wardrobe malfunction — and we do mean major.
Kelly Clarkson recalled on the latest episode of her eponymous talk show the embarrassing time her skirt fell down during a concert, and she, uh, happened to not be wearing any underwear.
“I had something happen on tour once where my skirt, the clip broke, and it dropped. And I dropped so fast,” she told her horrified guests, Nick Jonas and Adrienne Warren. “But here’s why [I dropped], look, long story short, I was commando, and it was a long skirt, and something happened to it where it was… okay, it’s TMI for America.”
She continued, “I was like, ‘The one night I don’t have any [underwear]!’ And I dropped to the floor so fast, and it’s during a show. I’m like [singing], ‘Break away.’ It was really unfortunate.”
That wasn’t Clarkson’s only bit of bad luck that evening, though. “Yeah, I stepped on glass the same night. It was like, what’s wrong? Who did I piss off?” Warren then asked the singer if she kept singing. “Yes, I am Sasha Fierce,” she quipped.
Luckily, Clarkson seems to have recovered from the incident. “Anyway, it happens though, and you just have to keep swimming,” she concluded.

Clarkson would know — the skirt incident isn’t the only wardrobe malfunction she’s opened up about publicly. As captured in a fan video posted to social media in 2023, the Grammy award winner had just started to perform her 2012 hit “Catch My Breath” at an event when she paused the show to ask her bandmates if her garment had accidentally become a little too revealing.

“Am I good?” Clarkson asked, placing her hands over her chest. “Wait, hold on.” As the band came to an abrupt halt, the singer asked again, “Should I fix it?” Turning toward the audience, Clarkson then explained, “I think my boob’s showing,” before running off to the side of the stage to remedy the problem.
Elsewhere on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Jonas and Warren, who star in the Broadway play The Last Five Years, chat with Clarkson about the demands of doing eight shows a week, their own wardrobe malfunctions on stage, and Clarkson tests how well they really know their musical theater in a game of “I Have To Know If You Know This Show!”
