LIVE: Reaction as Piastri stuns to Bahrain pole, Norris only sixth

Oscar Piastri heads into Bahrain Grand Prix qualifying as favourite for pole position having set a blistering time in final practice.

The Australian ended up 0.6s faster than McLaren team-mate Lando Norris with Charles Leclerc in third-place the only driver to get within a second of the MCL39.

Max Verstappen was a lowly eighth for Red Bull, with Lewis Hamilton also well off the pace for Ferrari, but can anyone catch, and then match, the mighty McLaren?

The Woking squad could earn a first-ever pole position in Bahrain if Piastri or Norris take P1 on the grid.
