Mark Stoops confirms Brock Vandagriff will start at QB vs. Texas

Mark Stoops had to answer the quarterback question again ahead of the final conference game for Kentucky.

During this week’s press conference, Stoops addressed the discussion going on between Brock Vandagriff and Cutter Boley. He knows that its a topic but said that Vandagriff will be the Wildcats’ QB1 again this weekend at Texas.

“You know, I know everybody’s talking about the quarterback position,” Stoops said on Monday.

“You know, Brock will be under center,” stated Stoops. “Brock has given us a chance to, you know – went on the road and beat a playoff team, you know, had an opportunity in some others like you had just mentioned. So, Brock has done some really good things as well…Again, you know, Brock has done some really good things in some really, really tough, hostile environments to put us in position to win as well.”

Still, Stoops gave Boley credit in his first real collegiate snaps this past weekend. The true freshman is a big part of the program’s future as they’ll be continuing to develop him, regardless of whether he plays any more this season or not.

“You look at Cutter and, you know, the first time he really was under center with getting a lot of practice reps with the ones, the twos and being prepared for that opportunity and making the most of it. So, a lot to build on there,” Stoops said. “We will absolutely continue to have Cutter ready and get him those first-, second-team reps and just get him ready and keep on developing him. You know, we certainly liked what we saw in one half of football.”

Vandagriff has been the starter all season long in his own first trut opportunity after transferring in. He is completing 57.8% of his throws this year for 1,542 yards, nine touchdowns, and seven interceptions. That includes being 12-19 (63.2%) for 183 yards, two scores, and a pick during their 48-6 win over Murray State.

Still, Boley was the story on Saturday against the Racers. He started the second half and was 10-14 (71.4%) for 130 yard, a pair of touchdowns, and no interceptions.

This hasn’t even included any snaps for Gavin Wimsatt. He has been the backup this fall with appearances in seven of the ten games with his dual-threat ability being an addition to the offense at times.

Boley, the homegrown, former four-star recruit, is the eventual plan at quarterback for Kentucky. He just isn’t the present one with Vandagriff being the starter for them on The 40 Acres.
