Kansas City weather: Metro under Winter Weather Advisory, slick road conditions reported
CLOSURES RUNNING AT THE BOTTOM OF YOUR SCREEN RIGHT NOW, BUT NICK BENDER WANT TO SEND THINGS OVER TO YOU BECAUSE THIS THIS WEATHER HAS JUST BEEN CAUSING SIGNIFICANT PROBLEMS FOR FOLKS. IT LOOKS LIKE NEW ORLEANS, BUT WITH THE TEMPERATURES BELOW FREEZING, THOSE LITTLE WATER DROPLETS OR THAT DRIZZLE ARE CREATING ICY SPOTS ON THE ROADS. WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR MANY COMMUNITIES HERE, SHADED IN PURPLE, INCLUDING ALL OF THE METRO FOR FREEZING DRIZZLE THAT WILL CREATE ANYWHERE FROM A GLAZE UP TO A 10TH OF AN INCH OF ICE. AND THOSE HIGHER ICE ACCUMULATIONS WILL OCCUR ACROSS FAR NORTHERN MISSOURI, WHERE FREEZING DRIZZLE WILL LAST THROUGH THE AFTERNOON INTO THE EVENING WITH TEMPERATURES NOT COMING ABOVE FREEZING, TEMPS WILL COME ABOVE FREEZING HERE IN KANSAS CITY BY NOON, AND THAT WILL NEGATE THE ICE ACCUMULATION FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE DAY. BUT IT IS CREATING ICY SPOTS ON THE ROADS. WE’RE KIND OF WATCHING THE TRIANGLE HERE. IT IS SLOW GOING. THERE ARE BACKUPS, THERE ARE SLIDE OFFS. I MEAN, IT IS A MESS ACROSS PARTS OF THE METRO THIS MORNING. IT’S 28 DEGREES RIGHT NOW WITH FREEZING DRIZZLE AND A BRISK EAST WIND THAT MAKES IT FEEL LIKE 18 DEGREES ONLY COMMUNITIES ABOVE FREEZING CLINTON IN WARSAW. JUST PLAIN DRIZZLE HERE, BUT EVERYWHERE ELSE WHERE THOSE LITTLE RAIN DROPLETS FALL AND COME INTO CONTACT WITH YOUR VEHICLE MAILBOX, A SIDEWALK, A PARKING LOT. IT’S GOING TO CREATE ICY SPOTS. JAMIE ON THE FIRST ALERT. 12 HOUR FORECAST. FREEZING DRIZZLE IS LIKELY THROUGH ABOUT 11:00 THIS MORNING, THEN TEMPERATURES COMING ABOVE FREEZING THIS AFTERNOON. AND NICK, I MEAN, IT HAS JUST BEEN A PROBLEM EVERYWHERE AROUND THE METRO. WE’RE TAKING A LIVE LOOK I-670 WESTBOUND PAST SUMMIT STREET, WHERE IT IS A PARKING LOT. BOTH DIRECTIONS NOW, NEITHER LANE OF TRAFFIC IS GOING TO BE MOVING. WE HAVE SEVERAL CLOSURES AROUND THE METRO. AT LAST CHECK. I’M REFRESHING OUR TOTAL TRAFFIC HERE. WE’VE GOT ABOUT TEN DIFFERENT ACCIDENTS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE STATE LINE THAT HAVE SHUT DOWN THE INTERSTATE COMPLETELY. AGAIN, WANT TO JUST GIVE YOU THAT REMINDER. WE’VE GOT CLOSURES SCROLLING AT THE BOTTOM OF YOUR SCREEN, SCHOOLS CHANGING THEIR LEARNING
