HERKIMER, N.Y. — It was a difficult day in Herkimer County Court on Thursday as a Jordanville man was sentenced for the murders of his father and younger sister, which took place at their home in 2021.
Nine days into his trial on two counts of first-degree murder, Michael Andreev Jr. pled guilty to two counts of the reduced charge of second-degree murder.
He stabbed his father, Mchael Andreev, Sr., and younger sister, Sofia Trusova, to death.
Any clear motive remains a mystery.
“There was an allegation that the father wouldn’t take him to go play soccer with his friends. That may have been enough. I don’t know. But he clearly killed his father. And his sister saw it, and the little brother saw it. The little brother was able to escape,” Herkimer County District Attorney Jeffrey Carpenter said.
Andreev’s sentence is 15 years to life in prison for the murder of his father and 17 years to life for the murder of his sister.
They’re consecutive, so that’s 32 years to life in prison.
The judge asked Andreev if he had anything to say.
Andreev paused for about 10 seconds and said, “No.”
There were no victim impact statements.
