A Midlands man won a $500,000 top prize on a South Carolina lottery ticket with odds of just 1 in 1.5 million.
IRMO, S.C. — A South Carolina man recently stopped by an Irmo store and left a very rich man.
The South Carolina Education Lottery said a Midlands man was on his way home when he stopped at the Irmo Mini Mart on Lake Murray Boulevard and decided to buy a $10 scratch-off ticket. He told lottery officials he was “at a loss for words” when he realized he had scratched off the top prize worth $500,000.
His family described the win as potentially life-changing and were just as surprised as he was when he broke the news. That’s understandable given the one-in-1,500,000 chance of winning the top prize on The Big Spin game.
But for those who want to give it a shot, two top prizes remain in the game.
The store that sold the ticket doesn’t leave the table empty-handed either. The South Carolina Education Lottery will pay them a $5,000 commission.
