There is another scam that Colorado residents need to be aware of. It feels like there is a new scam every single day. It is hard to keep up. This is a time to remember that it is very important to know the signs that a text message, a call, or an email may be a scam.
Never click on unverified links. Never give personal information to unknown sources, and think before you act.
I consider myself a tech-savvy person. I believe I can identify scam artists pretty easily. However, a new scam I have been receiving almost got me.
PDF Text Scam and Colorado
I have been receiving text messages from random numbers with a PDF file attached. There is no message attached. The text messages are simply PDF files. When I received the text message, I just saw a PDF file and the name of it.
I have now received at least 10 of these messages from different phone numbers with Colorado area codes.
I almost clicked on the first one. I assumed that maybe it was a text message from a co-worker. I am notorious for forgetting to add new contacts to my phone.

Right as my thumb hovered over the PDF file, I realized quickly that it might be a scam.
About the Scam Hitting Colorado Right Now
The PDF scam is real. Lifehacker first reported the scam in 2022. They say that the PDF is filled with malware. That malware could extract important data from your phone such as contacts, financial information, and more.
I have been asking around, and friends and family have also been receiving similar scam text messages.
Another Scam to Look Out For in Colorado
As I said earlier, more scams are being created every day. Scam tactics are exponentially growing, thanks to the development of artificial intelligence.
Scams will become less easy to identify, and criminals are learning new deepfake methods. Experts predict that there will be more scams to look out for in 2025.
Scammers will use artificial intelligence to mimic loved ones, co-workers, or friends of their victims, whether it be phone calls, photos, or video.
