Red Foxes Fall Short Against the Mount on Senior Day


POUGHKEEPSIE – Morgan Lee compiled a team-high 15 points and four blocks, but it wasn’t enough, as Marist women’s basketball came up short in its regular season finale against Mount St. Mary’s, 61-50, at home Saturday afternoon inside McCann Arena.

Danielle Williamsen contributed nine points, while Catie Cunningham tallied six points and six rebounds in the loss.

With the loss, Marist fell to 16-14 on the season and 11-9 in the MAAC, while Mount St. Mary’s improved to 14-15 on the campaign and 12-8 in conference play.

First Quarter
After the Mount struck first for a layup, the Red Foxes responded with a swift 14-6 run, powered by a three-pointer from Jackie Piddock and two from deep courtesy of Danielle Williamsen.

Marist held Mount St. Mary’s to just one point over the final 4:50 of the frame to carry a 20-9 lead into the second quarter.

Second Quarter
The Red Foxes opened the quarter with a swift 5-0 run, capped by a Lexie Tarul three-pointerm forcing a Mount St. Mary’s timeout trailing 25-9 with 8:20 left in the half.

Out of the timeout, the Mount responded with a 12-0 run, forcing a Marist timeout, leading 25-22 with 3:44 left in the half. However, Mount St. Mary’s closed the half with a 5-2 run to tie the contest at 27-27 at the break.

Third Quarter
The Mount stayed hot offensively, opening the half with an 11-2 run, forcing a Marist timeout trailing 38-29 with 5:58 left in the frame. Mount St. Mary’s held Marist to seven points in the quarter, as the Mount carried a 45-36 lead into the fourth.

Fourth Quarter
The Mount opened the fourth with an 11-2 run to stretch their lead to 56-38 with 6:10 left in the contest. The gap proved to be too much for the Red Foxes, as they eventually fell, 61-50.

Marist will be back in action on Thursday, March 13, when the Red Foxes take on Mount St. Mary’s in the MAAC Quarterfinals.
