Roman Reigns Reveals What Really Happened Backstage at WWE WrestleMania 40

WWE Superstar Roman Reigns headlined his ninth main event at WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia. There he faced Royal Rumble winner Cody Rhodes in a Bloodline Rules match.

Widely regarded as the greatest WrestleMania main event of all time, the match featured outside influences. This included appearances from The Usos, Solo Sikoa, John Cena, The Rock, Seth Rollins and The Undertaker. Amid the chaos, Cody Rhodes emerged victorious, ending Roman Reigns’ 1,317-day title reign.

Wrestlers often share backstage moments after their matches. A few months ago, Cody Rhodes revealed that after the WWE title, he could not find Roman Reigns in the Gorilla position. Rhodes recalled, “He was nowhere to be found in Gorilla when I got back. He knew his run had been generational and that he had changed the industry, something very few people can claim.”

Roman Reigns, who took a hiatus after his defeat at WrestleMania 40, made his comeback in SummerSlam. After his return, he clashed with his younger cousin, Solo Sikoa, and the new version of The Bloodline. Now, Reigns aligns with the original Bloodline and CM Punk prepares to face Sikoa’s new Bloodline in a WarGames match.

Recently, the former Tribal Chief shared what happened backstage after his loss at WrestleMania 40.

Roman Reigns reveals no backstage encounter with Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40

Roman Reigns recently appeared on the Sports Illustrated podcast. He discussed Cody Rhodes’ comments regarding their backstage interaction after WrestleMania 40. Reigns explained there was no need to wait for Rhodes backstage, especially given the excitement and celebrations that followed the match.

The wrestling icon said, “If you want to sit out there and babyface for four hours, then you’re—I’m not, I ain’t waiting… I mean, what kind of time are we talking about here?” Citing that he is not from Philadelphia, he added, “there’s some jet fuel to be burnt, and I had to go. So, you know what, and I think he hit it on the head. I’ll give him that. We know what we did; we were both out there.”

Reigns went on to acknowledge both their effort and commitment to the sport. He said, “So, you can thank each other and all that old stuff, but we put our bodies on the line together, and I think that’s thanks enough.”

While Reigns and Rhodes did not greet each other backstage at WrestleMania 40, back in October, both stars teamed together to face Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu at WWE Bad Blood 2024.
