As the holiday shopping season nears, the California Lottery is urging shoppers not to gift lottery tickets to anyone under 18. “Our holiday-themed Scratchers are meant to bring fun, but they are not suitable – or legal – for kids,” said Carolyn Becker, California Lottery spokesperson. The Lottery emphasizes that gifting Scratchers to minors is illegal, with studies showing that early exposure to gambling can lead to future problems. With over 23,000 retailers in its network, the California Lottery enforces this rule through undercover operations to prevent illegal sales to minors.
