The season’s first significant rainfall is on track to hit Santa Barbara County over the weekend and into early next week, but no flooding or related problems are expected.

Light rain should begin late Friday night and continue into Saturday afternoon, according to Ariel Cohen, meteorologist in charge at the National Weather Service office in Oxnard.

“Not more than a tenth of an inch in most areas,” Cohen told Noozhawk. “We’re looking at overall a beneficial rain situation to come up over several days.”

The county is on the very edge of a powerful atmospheric river that is soaking Northern California and the Pacific Northwest.

A second period of “light and occasionally moderate” rain is expected to kick off on Monday, Cohen said, with light rain and drizzle persisting into Wednesday.

Sunny skies and warmer temperatures are expected late in the week.

“Overall for the entire period, we’ll maybe get an inch or two of rain, but spread out over a long period of time,” Cohen said.

No flooding or debris flows are expected, but forecasters will be keeping an eye on recent burn areas, including the Lake Fire in the San Rafael Mountains north of Lake Cachuma.

Advisories for wind or high surf are not expected, Cohen said.

Clear skies are expected Thursday and Friday ahead of the storm.

Daytime highs through the period should be in the upper-50s and low-60s, with overnight lows in the mid- to upper-40s.
