Impact: Snow showers Friday morning, rain/snow in the afternoon across south-central Pennsylvania
Overnight temps in the 30s. Snow showers begin early Friday morning, moving north to south.
METEOROLOGIST MIKE SUSKO. HEY THERE, MIKE SNOW. YES, WE’RE GOING TO BE SEEING SOME SNOW. MAYBE SOME OF YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE THE ENTHUSIASM FOR THAT AS WE GO INTO TOMORROW. STORM TEAM LIVE RADAR NETWORK SHOWING THAT PRECIPITATION IS STARTING TO MOVE ITS WAY IN HERE. NOW, WHEN WE LOOK OFF TO THE NORTHEAST, WE SEE A LOT MORE THERE. AND HERE’S WHERE THE SETTING UP RIGHT NOW ALONG I-80 IS WHERE THAT PRECIPITATION IS. IF IT’S NORTH, IF YOU’RE NORTH OF THERE, YOU’RE GETTING THE RAIN AND THE SNOW. IT’S STARTING TO MOVE INTO OUR COUNTIES HERE OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF HOURS. BUT ZOOMING ON OUT, THIS IS WHAT WE’RE WATCHING. IT’S A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM OFF OF THE JERSEY SHORE JUST OUTSIDE NEW YORK CITY, AND NORTHEASTERLY FLOW THAT’S COMING IN. THAT’S GOING TO BE MOVING ALL THAT PRECIPITATION OVER US. IT WILL GO FROM NORTH TO SOUTH. SO PLACES LIKE HARRISBURG, GETTYSBURG, CHAMBERSBURG AND THEN YORK, YOU’LL GET A LITTLE LATER COMPARED TO PLACES IN JUNIATA, MIFFLIN COUNTY, EVEN NORTHERN LEBANON COUNTY. SO YOU GET THE IDEA. IT’S GOING TO BE A NORTH TO SOUTH MOTION HERE. WINTER WATCHES AND WARNINGS NOTICE THEY ARE NORTH AND WEST OF OUR AREA HERE. AND THAT’S BECAUSE WE SIMPLY ARE JUST NOT GOING TO GET ENOUGH SNOW TO HIT THE CRITERIA YOU NEED FOR IT. HERE IN THE SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY, WE NEED TWO INCHES OF SNOW FOR ADVISORY, AND WE’RE JUST SIMPLY NOT GOING TO BE GETTING THAT ENOUGH PLACES THIS TIME AROUND. LANCASTER. RIGHT NOW IT IS QUIET. TEMPERATURES ARE IN THE 30S, 38 DEGREES. WE’VE BEEN SEEING THOSE TEMPERATURES DROP THROUGHOUT THE EVENING. IT FEELS LIKE 29 DEGREES, THOUGH, BECAUSE OF THE WINDS OUT OF THE WEST. AROUND 15MPH. AND THEY HAVE BEEN INCREASING STEADILY AS WE GO ON THROUGH THE EVENING. AND I EXPECT THAT TO CONTINUE WITH THE SNOW FALLING. SO WE WILL HAVE SOME GUSTY WINDS AS THAT SNOW IS FALLING TOMORROW. SO JUST SOMETHING TO KEEP IN MIND AS YOU’RE HEADING OUT IN THE MORNING. SO HERE’S YOUR PLANNER FOR THE NEXT REALLY 24 HOURS TONIGHT. MOSTLY CLOUDY, BRISK AND CHILLY 36 DEGREES. TOMORROW WILL BE LIGHT MORNING SNOW BUT BLUSTERY SO THAT SNOW IS GOING TO BE BLOWING AROUND AND WILL BE REDUCING THAT VISIBILITY TOMORROW AFTERNOON. WE DO MAKE A SWITCH OVER TO RAIN AND SNOW MIX, ESPECIALLY IN THE VALLEYS THAT WILL LEAD TO LITTLE TO NO ACCUMULATION WITH IT. THAT’S WHY WE DO NOT HAVE THE ADVISORIES IN EFFECT. CURRENT TEMPERATURES ARE IN THE UPPER 30S, LOW 40S ACROSS THE SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY RIGHT NOW. AND PREDICTOR REALLY KIND OF ILLUSTRATES THIS, THAT PRECIPITATION WILL START IN OUR NORTHERN COUNTIES. AND THEN MOVE TO THE SOUTH AS WE GO THROUGH TOMORROW MORNING, 7 A.M. IT’S BASICALLY RIGHT ALONG THE TURNPIKE. IF YOU’RE NORTH OF THE TURNPIKE, YOU’RE SNOWING. IF YOU’RE SOUTH, YOU ARE NOT RIGHT NOW. AND THEN IT MOVES IN AFTERWARDS. BUT AROUND NOONTIME, WHAT’S GOING TO HAPPEN IS WARMER AIR WORKS. ITS WAY IN, AND THEN A LOT OF THAT WHITE BECOMES, YOU CAN SEE THAT BLUISH COLOR INDICATING THE RAIN. SO WE’RE GOING TO SEE THAT CHANGEOVER IN THE AFTERNOON FROM SNOW TO RAIN. THAT’S REALLY GOING TO KEEP THOSE TOTALS DOWN BEFORE EVERYTHING MOVES ON OUT BY SEVEN 8:00 HERE. AND THEN AFTER THAT IT’S GOING TO BE QUIET. HERE’S ANOTHER WAY TO SEE IT. YOU NOTICE HOW IT’S EXTREMELY LIGHT IN THE VALLEYS, EXCEPT THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS WHERE WE COULD AGAIN PICK UP THAT MAYBE INCH OR TWO ON THE GRASSY SURFACES. BUT THE WINDS TOMORROW WITH THAT SNOW FALLING IS WHAT’S GOING TO BE REDUCING THAT VISIBILITY. THOSE GUSTS WILL BE ANYWHERE FROM 30 TO 35MPH. AND KEEP IN MIND, WITH TEMPERATURES IN THE 30S, THIS IS GOING TO MAKE IT FEEL LIKE YOU’RE IN THE 20S. SO WE’RE ALSO GOING TO HAVE A WIND CHILL TOMORROW. SO LIGHT MORNING SNOW, THEN SNOW MIXING WITH RAIN IN THE AFTERNOON. THE TIMING WILL BE FROM 6 TO 10 NORTH TO SOUTH, TAPERING OFF IN THE EVENING AGAIN, ACCORDING TO ONE INCH EXPECTED IN THE GRASSY SURFACES TOMORROW. NOT THE BEST DAY YOU WANT TO BE HANGING UP THOSE HOLIDAY LIGHTS AND SATURDAY IS A BETTER DAY, BUT IT WILL STILL BE A BLUSTERY AND THEN SUNDAY WILL THOU BE THE PICK OF THE WEEKEND? GUYS, IF YOU WANT TO DO ANYTHING THIS WEEKEND, DO IT ON SUNDAY BECAUSE THAT WILL BE THE BEST DAY TO DO SO. AND YOUR TEN DAY FORECAST, IF YOU CAN’T DO IT SUNDAY, YOU CAN ALSO DO IT MONDAY AND EVEN TUESDAY. BUT AS WE GO INTO THE SECOND HALF OF THE WEEK TOWARDS TURKEY DAY, THINGS GET COOLER
Impact: Snow showers Friday morning, rain/snow in the afternoon across south-central Pennsylvania
Overnight temps in the 30s. Snow showers begin early Friday morning, moving north to south.
We are tracking for the first snowflakes of the season for the Susquehanna Valley. Thursday evening will be quiet with an overcast sky with an isolated shower. Overnight temperatures will fall into the upper 30s. Snow showers will begin early Friday morning and move from north to south. The onset of precipitation will be after 5 AM with areas south of the turnpike beginning after 7 AM.Temperatures will be above freezing throughout Friday morning and afternoon so anything that falls will melt on the roadways. We do not anticipate any major travel disruptions from the snow. A little slush on the roadways will be possible in the higher elevations where the most snow occurs. During the afternoon, warmer air will switch the snow to rain for most in the Valley. Overall, we expect a coating – 1″ of snow on elevated and grassy surfaces, but an isolated 2″ spot is not out of the question above 1,500 feet. As mentioned earlier, you may find some slushy roads in the higher elevations, but that’s it. Everything wraps up towards the end of the Friday evening commute. After that, the weekend will be fairly quiet with an isolated shower and blustery on Saturday. Sunday will be the pick of the weekend with a partly cloudy sky and calmer winds. Both days will see highs in the upper 40s & low 50s. Next week will start quietly on Monday with highs in the mid-50s. Our next chance of rain will be late Monday night and Tuesday. The pattern becomes more active and cooler towards the Thanksgiving holiday with a chance for more precipitation. Stay tuned for updates over the next few days!
