Sonic 4 Movie Story Rumours Backed Up By Reliable Leaker

Summary

  • Sonic 4’s story is reportedly centred around time travel.
  • This could be inspired by Sonic CD’s time travel mechanic.
  • Sonic 4 will be Amy and Metal Sonic’s debut in the movie series, and both characters were introduced in Sonic CD.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 won’t be with us for a while, as it’s slated to hit theatres on March 17, 2027. However, it seems that the writers already have some ideas for the story, and it might all be centred around the 1993 game Sonic CD.

As per reliable industry insider Daniel Richtman’s Patreon, Sonic 4’s story will include “time travel elements”. This isn’t too surprising, as Sonic 4 is set to introduce Amy and Metal Sonic into the movie universe, and their debut game was Sonic CD.

Sonic 4 Might Feature Time Travel

That could explain how Metal Sonic and Amy appear in the next film

Sonic CD featured a mechanic that let players travel to the past and future. If they’d accomplished a certain task in the present, then they could be sent to a good future. If not, they’d go to a bad future where Eggman had won.

It’s likely that something similar to this will appear in Sonic 4 if this rumour is to be believed. It’s backed up by what we’ve seen from Sonic 3 concept art, with one piece seemingly depicting a bad future in which Eggman has won with Metal Sonic by his side. Looking at other pieces of concept art, it looks like Amy is from this future, although this is all speculation at this point.

While nothing is confirmed, it’s possible that we’ll get some kind of spin-off show to fill the gap between the films. We had that between Sonic 2 and Sonic 3, with Knuckles getting his own Paramount+ series. And with a Sonic 3 post-credits scene confirming that Shadow survived the events of the film, that certainly seems like the obvious way to go.
