Ladies and gentlemen, I have returned. After a two-week hiatus, I am once again back at the helm of the NYT Mini Crossword guide here at Forbes Games. I’ve passed the Strands baton on to my colleagues Kris Holt and Paul Tassi, and I have taken the Mini baton in hand. I also write a daily Wordle guide which you can find here on my blog. In any case, it’s the weekend and we have people to do and things to see, so let’s get on with it, shall we?
The NYT Mini is a smaller, quicker, more digestible, bite-sized version of the larger and more challenging NYT Crossword, and unlike its larger sibling, it’s free-to-play without a subscription to The New York Times. You can play it on the web or the app, though you’ll need the app to tackle the archive.

This was a tricky Mini crossword, with a lot of words I just didn’t know right off the bat, and a few I did. Thankfully, things started out fairly easy with 1 and 4 Across (Bow and Caleb) and a few of the downs were pretty obvious—Ole!—but some of these really stumped me. 10-Across as ‘XFACTOR’ I never would have gotten without guessing 6-Down “Fox” first. Overall, my guessing game was slow or, according to 3-Down’s understanding of slang, “Weak tea.”
