ForbesToday’s NYT Mini Crossword Clues And Answers For Saturday, April 12th

Yesterday’s Mini Crossword was hardly miniature. It was by far the biggest and most challenging Saturday Mini Crossword I’ve seen since I’ve been penning these guides. Today’s is much smaller, though not without its challenges.

The NYT Mini is a smaller, quicker, more digestible, bite-sized version of the larger and more challenging NYT Crossword, and unlike its larger sibling, it’s free-to-play without a subscription to The New York Times. You can play it on the web or the app, though you’ll need the app to tackle the archive.

Spoilers ahead!

ACROSS

1- State sch. founded by Thomas Jefferson — UVA

4- Flower containers — POTS

Play Puzzles & Games on Forbes

6- “Crib” or “pad” for “house” — SLANG

8- Pants, informally — TROU

9- Company nicknamed “Big Blue” — IBM

DOWN

1- Company nicknamed “Big Brown” — UPS

2- What “V” stands for on a battery — VOLT

3- Big name in 1980s arcade games — ATARI

5- Stuck-up sort — SNOB

7- Big Red, e.g. — GUM

Today’s NYT Mini Crossword theme is basically “nicknames / slang” or what we call stuff that isn’t exactly what it is, like IBM being called “Big Blue” or, apparently, pants being referred to as “TROU” in some new SLANG I’ve never heard before and will never, ever, so long as I live, employ. TROU? Seriously? Who says this and why are they allowed to? In any case, this was much easier than yesterday’s Mini, though I wasn’t sure about the first few and had to skip ahead to fill in the blanks. Today’s puzzle took me 1:22.

How did you do? Let me know on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook.

If you also play Wordle, I write guides about that as well. You can find those and all my TV guides, reviews and much more here on my blog. Thanks for reading!
