Traffic guide for Arizona State homecoming game and festivities

TEMPE, AZ (AZFamily) — Arizona State University fans are gearing up for the big homecoming game this weekend, and ASU Police are expecting large crowds and heavy traffic.

The 21-ranked Sun Devils will face 14th-ranked BYU at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 23. But before that, the famous parade and block party will occur at 9:30 a.m.

The block party will be hosted at Old Main, but the parade route is between Forest Avenue and McAllister Avenue.

In preparation for the parade and block party, ASU police will close down University Drive on Friday at 6 p.m.

The closures on University Drive will be between:

  • College Avenue & McCallister Avenue
  • Rural Road & Mill Avenue

Jason Weber, with the ASU police, says several officers and aides will direct homecoming traffic. Portable barriers will also be set up around the parade route and the block party to keep everyone safe.

Knowing this will cause some road delays, so Weber recommends you do this to make your life a little bit easier.

“Expect a lot of people, I mean this game has been sold out for weeks. So have a plan on where to park and how to get there,” he explained.

Since general parking was discounted to $20 as part of ASU’s game-day enhancements for the season, Weber advises buying your general parking passes now.

However, if you don’t want to deal with parking, Weber said the light rail is your best option.

“The light rail is going to be convenient because you got to park a little further away, so it’s going to be easy parking. Then when you leave, there’s going to be less traffic than right here at the stadium,” he said.

The barriers and closures will be lifted by the end of the game on Saturday.
