The Southeastern Conference released their all-conference honors on Monday afternoon.
Recognized on the All-SEC second team was Kentucky Wildcats forward Otega Oweh, which was no surprise considering the hefty scoring load he consistently carried this season.
He played in all 31 games for Kentucky, averaging 16.2 points during the regular season and scoring 20 or more points in 11 games while scoring less than 10 points in only two games.
Oweh’s efforts on the defensive end were also noticeable along with his leadership.
Amari Williams also played in all 31 of Kentucky’s games, anchoring the middle with his elite rim protecting. He also found himself throughout the season being relied on as the main distributor on offense, especially with guard Lamont Butler sidelined for several games.
Williams also picked up his play against SEC teams, scoring the basketball at a much higher rate and putting together eight double-doubles along with a triple-double. For comparison, he had just two double-doubles before SEC play began.
The UK big man was not recognized on any of the three all-SEC teams nor was he a part of the all-SEC defensive team. It’s more than a snub — it’s a shame that anyone really believes there were that many better choices for the recognition.
He’ll have his chance to show everyone just how impactful he is starting Thursday night when Kentucky faces the winner of Georgia & Oklahoma in the SEC Tournament.
