West Louisville officer-involved shooting a ‘critical investigation’


Louisville Metro Police Department says an officer shot a homicide suspect in west Louisville on Sunday.LMPD said they responded to the 1300 block of Cypress Street just before 1 p.m. about a shooting. That’s near the border between the Park Hill and Parkland neighborhoods.Police were asking people to avoid the area, calling it a “critical investigation.”Officers arrived and found a woman with multiple gunshot wounds. She was taken to the hospital, where she died.LMPD said they were able to identify the suspect and began canvassing the area where the shooting happened. It was around 3 p.m. when police said they located the suspect behind a house in that area and approached him.This is when police say the suspect shot at officers and ran away. LMPD returned fire and chased the suspect, catching him shortly after.The suspect was shot one time, according to LMPD. They were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police did not say how many shots were fired between the suspect and officers. However, they said no one else aside from the suspect was injured.The suspect was later identified as 36-year-old Joshua Miller. He is charged with murder in the woman’s death and will be facing additional charges related to shooting at police.LMPD’s Public Integrity Unit is handling the investigation.Body camera footage of the incident will be released within 10 business days per LMPD policy.
