Which ‘Marvel Rivals’ Chrono Tokens You Lose And Keep When Season 1 Hits

Marvel Rivals players may want to be aware that they will not keep all currencies they are earning as they play right now in season zero. While some will carry over, NetEase has just published an article talking through which ones are staying, which ones are going, and how exactly that’s all going to work. Here are the highlights:

  • The Luxury Battle Pass does not expire. However, to “encourage completing the Battle Pass within its dedicated season” you must re-acquire Chrono Tokens in the new season to unlock things within it after the season ends. They want you to “immerse yourselves in the new season’s Battle Pass” based on its new theme.
  • You cannot purchase past Luxury Battle Passes in a new season even if ones you have bought do not expire. They say those passes and the items within become an “unattainable relic,” so FOMO will abound.
  • If you have extra Chrono Tokens when the season ends, Rivals will auto-claim rewards on the Battle Pass until they run out, should you not manually claim them in time. But any that remain after the auto-redemption will be wiped out.
  • If you have spent paid-for Lattice to purchase additional Chrono Tokens, they have devised a plan to “protect” these purchased Tokens. This is where things get even more complicated. The amount retained will be the lesser of the remaining Tokens and the total you bought with Lattice during the season. They will be delivered by in-game mail. These purchased Tokens will keep enduring on into future seasons. These are not Chrono Tokens that were “purchased” or discounted in the Battle Pass. Only ones you literally bought with Lattice.

Here’s a math problem used as an example:

  • “Let’s say you spend a total of 1,000 Lattice to secure 1,000 Chrono Tokens in the current season. Then, the season ends, and the automatic item redemption is completed. Here’s what happens after:
  • If 500 Chrono Tokens remain, then these 500 Chrono Tokens will be retained for the next season.
  • If 1,500 Chrono Tokens remain, then the 1,000 purchased Chrono Tokens will be retained for the next season.”

Simple! Yeah, not really. But if you want to understands the long and short of it, they do not want you to hoard earned Chrono Tokens in between seasons, which is why they will be auto-spent or wiped during rollover. But they also do not want to discourage people from spending actual money on Chrono Tokens so those will be carried over. Though even then, there is some confusing math to work out, and I wonder if this is going to be streamlined over time. It really should be.
