As if mentor and protege facing off in a steel cage rematch on PPV wasn’t enough, Will Ospreay and Kyle Fletcher climbed to the top and stared each other down from opposite corners before their Revolution bout began.
Fletcher controlled the early going as his manager Don Callis talked about how the cage placement limited Ospreay’s aerial abilities. The Protostar busted his old friend open on the cage, then licked his blood off the steel links.
Ospreay recovered to fight back, and bloody the Aussie up too — first with chops to the chest, then by kicking him when he head was behind an exposed turnbuckle. Will slammed his former friend’s head into a steel beam a few times for good measure, then connected with a Spiral Tap, but couldn’t keep Fletcher down for three.
After the middle portion of the match saw each man hit and kick out of big moves, Fletcher’s current tag partner — and Ospreay’s former United Empire stable mate — Mark Davis strolled to ringside with a bag of weapons. He opened the door with a pair of bolt cutters to get it into the cage, then had that door kicked into his face by Will.
With control of the plunder, the Arial Assassin pulled out a barbed wire bat. He even channeled Cactus Jack while attacking Fletcher with it. As he was getting ready to finish things, Kyle pulled out a United Empire armband and threw up the group’s hand sign. Ospreay wasn’t moved, but he slowed his approach long enough for Fletcher to recover and hit him with a low blow.
That still wasn’t enough to end this, of course. Ospreay regained the advantage, but Davis returned to grab him from behind. Will escaped both men and took the bigger one out again, but when he caught Fletcher climbing the cage, Kyle produced the screwdriver that’s long been a part of his storyline with Callis. He alternated using that as a weapon with more low blows, and soon emptied a bag of thumbtacks in the ring… that Ospreay sent him chest first into with a Styles Clash.
The big spots kept coming along with the nearfalls. But nothing was bigger than this Spanish Fly from the top of the cage, a real “holy shit” moment for all kinds of reasons .
A defiant Fletcher screamed about how much he hates Ospreay as the Brit lined him up for a Hidden Blade. Given everything that preceded the moment, Will knew he needed more. He broke out Tiger Driver ‘91 to put the Protostar down for good.
